The Story Behind Buzz & Blooms

I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.
That question consumed me for most of my life. I was always wondering what my thing would be—what path would feel right. Nothing ever seemed to stick.
But I knew a few things for sure:

I wanted to be a mom.
I wanted to be outside.
And I wanted to build something meaningful—not just a creative outlet, but a real business that could grow alongside our family.
While I had planned to be a stay-at-home mom, I saw that time as an opportunity to explore how I could focus my energy in a way that would work for our family long-term. I didn’t just want a hobby; I wanted to create something with purpose.
At the time, I was collecting and reselling antiques. It was fun—but deep down, I knew there could be more.
Jamie (my husband) and I started a little backyard garden: green peppers, jalapeños, herbs, and way too many tomatoes. I loved being outside with the kids, digging in the dirt and soaking up the fresh air.
Then came the flowers.
I tossed some wildflower seeds in a corner to attract pollinators.
Then I added zinnias beside the shed.
Then a flower bed out front.
Then an old file cabinet became a flower box.
One small idea led to another, and before long, our home was filled with flowers. Every room had blooms. And the more I cut them, the more they grew—which gave me the perfect excuse to keep experimenting.

I started decorating cookies with petals. Pressing flowers for art. Drying them for wreaths. I even tried tatakizome—the Japanese art of hammering flowers into fabric to transfer their natural colors.
Every project brought joy. And eventually, clarity.
“I want to be a flower farmer,” I told Jamie one day.
Without missing a beat, he smiled and said, “I’ll grow the veggies.”
We weren’t ready to buy land yet. But I decided to use that season of waiting to prepare:
I researched everything I could.
I followed every small farm account on Instagram.
I dreamed about the future.
That’s when I came across Hannah from Kingdom Gardens in Rock Hill. We connected over Instagram (because of thrifting!), met up in person, and instantly hit it off.
What started as a simple DM turned into a beautiful friendship. Hannah gave me the opportunity to work alongside her at Kingdom Gardens for a full season. She grows vegetables, not flowers, but I learned so much:
Regenerative practices
Planning and structure
The rhythm of the land
When it came to flowers, I taught myself through books, research, and hands-on trial and error. The two paths complemented each other beautifully.
And now? It’s time for the next step.

Introducing Buzz & Blooms
This year, I’m launching my very own flower farm: Buzz & Blooms.
I’m still growing on the same land as last year, but now I’m doing it under my own business. I spent the winter planning successions, prepping beds, and building this dream from the ground up:
Branding
Licensing
Website
Marketing
I’ve been incredibly lucky to receive support from a marketing team and business advisor through a nonprofit called the SBDC as well as my beautiful new farm logo hand painted by my dear friend, Hannah, the owner of Kingdom Gardens. Their help brought so many of my ideas to life.
And like last year, I’m farming in alignment with my values:
I farm regeneratively.
I don’t use pesticides.
I never import flowers from overseas.
I grow everything right here or source from local growers who share my values.
Because I believe beauty shouldn't come at the cost of the environment.

Why it Matters
I’m so excited to share these blooms with our community. Whether it’s through bouquets, wreaths, crafts, or moments of connection, I hope they bring beauty and joy into your world.
Thank you for being here—for reading my story, supporting local flowers, and believing in beauty that’s grown with care.
Buzz & Blooms is more than a flower farm. It’s a space to slow down, reconnect with nature, and remember what matters most.
This is the heart behind my tagline:
Thoughtfully grown, Cultivating connections.
I’m so glad you’re along for the journey.
May flowers find you,
Abbie
